We caught up with Megan to find out more about her hospitality journey in advance of the awards.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I love that no two days are the same and that I have the opportunity to work on some really interesting projects with very exciting partners across the industry

What do you enjoy about your job?

I usually check my social media schedule for the day, then sort my inbox before starting work on graphic design & campaign collateral. This might include working suppliers to create unique branded collateral or advertising – projects I worked on recently included a bespoke Lucia Moreno Montero designed cocktail menu and a full suite of over 500 posters, signs brochure and more for our Jazz Festival Club at The Metropole Hotel. I grab a delicious lunch from our staff room, maybe play some Pac-Man or table tennis then back to the office for meetings for the afternoon with our Digital Marketing Executive Lauren. I have calls with our agencies on our ad campaigns, I work with our revenue team to develop new offers and pricing and add packages to our websites with new landing pages and information. For example at the moment I am working on Black Friday campaigns with Lauren, these must be added to our websites, ezines created, social media artwork designed and then I finish my day by completing any monthly reports or stats updates that are due for the Executive team.

After work, in the evenings, I may be found at a launch or networking event, awards evening, attending a show with our festival partners or a fundraising event with our charity partner – there’s always something to do.

Favourite thing about working in hospitality?

I’ve worked with companies across the tech, healthcare, pharma and legal industries and I have found that the passion and creativity you find working in hospitality is unmatched. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of a busy summer, or during festival periods like the Cork Jazz when everyone across the industry comes together to celebrate their city.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career in hospitality?

Hospitality is changing. The customer needs, the focus on sustainability and CSR, the drive to find automated and tech-savvy solutions is making this a very exciting place to be with new job titles and new career paths. You can carve a space for yourself so long as you are passionate, creative and results focused.

If you have a passion to learn, lots of hotels in the industry will help you with learning and development supports to help you shape a very interesting career in the industry.

Best of luck to all our Trigon Hotels nominees at this years IHI Hospitality Management Awards.
